Midlothian Kids Academy

Midlothian Kids Academy opened its doors to the Midlothian community in 2017, providing high-quality early childhood education and care. As demand for exceptional childcare continued to grow, the academy sought to expand its reach into Richmond. A prime location, a former doctor’s office on a corner lot, was selected to accommodate this expansion.

ENV collaborated closely with the owners and directors of Midlothian Kids Academy to transform this existing building into a dynamic, child-centered daycare facility. Our comprehensive approach included both interior renovation and site redesign, resulting in a safe, engaging, and playful learning environment.

Project Overview

This project involved a complete overhaul of the former doctor’s office, focusing on:

• Interior Renovation: The existing office space was meticulously transformed into functional daycare rooms, each designed to prioritize safety, accessibility, and child-friendly atmosphere.
• Playful and Budget-Conscious Design: A fun, imaginative design was implemented while adhering to strict budget constraints and maximizing the available space. The playful aesthetic utilizes bright colors with the central hallway as the center’s focal point. Inspired by a friendly neighborhood, each classroom door is marked by its own brightly painted door.
• Site Redesign: The existing parking lot was reconfigured to accommodate a new outdoor playground. This dedicated play area is designed with safety in mind, featuring age-appropriate play structures, soft flooring, and shaded areas to create an engaging outdoor learning and play environment.
